Serie A champions, Napoli came from behind to beat newcomers Frosinone 3-1 on Saturday with Nigeria Striker Victor Osimhen netting twice.
In the opening weekend of the 2023/2024 Sere A season, the defending Champions were threatened in the early minutes of the game as Abdou Harroui scored on the 7th minute via spot kick to hand the home side an early lead.
But Matteo Politano restored parity on the 24th minute before Victor Osimhen gave the champions the lead on 42nd minute.
The resumption of the encounter saw Frosinone mount pressure against the champions but they were rather shocked on the 79th minute as Osimhen beat the offside track to beat the on-rushing goalkeeper and put the game beyond the reach of the newcomers.
Although the 2023 Golden Boot winner was subbed off in the 81st minute, the champions held on to record their first victory on the opening week of the new season.
Osimhen won the 2023 league Golden Boot award after scoring 26 goals as Napoli won the league title for the first time in 33 years.
Osimhen’s brace leaves no one in doubt over his potency and desire to retain the award this season.
