Weightlifting Election: Christopher Nwadeih, Adijat Adenike Emerge Technical/Athletes Representatives

Mr Christopher Nwadeih and Ms Olarinoye Adijat Adenike have emerged Technical rep and athletes rep, respectively in the board of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report

The duo emerged winners at the Technical/Athlete Representatives election conducted at the gymnastics indoor hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B, Abuja.

To emerge the technical rep winner, Mr Nwadeih defeated Onubaye Sefiya Ahuoza and Oshomah Emmanuel Izuagbe in a keenly contested election.

Mr Nwadeih got a total of 18 votes to best Ahuoza who garnered 13 votes while Mr Izuagbe cameditant 3rd with 4 votes.

On her part, Ms Olarinoye Adijat Adenike scored a total of 15 votes to beat her only Challenger, Mr Mamdun Seldum Dickson who got 14 votes.

In declaring the winners, the chairman of the Electoral Panel, Barr. Amos Dushu charged them to discharge their duties creditably while also calling on them to build Bridges and work with everybody for the interest of the federation.

A total of 74 electorate from across the 36 states of the federation including the federal capital territory, FCT took part in the election.

Only Yobe state that absented from the election as they did not have a representative during the voting.

Olarinoye Adijat Adenike won the Athletes Rep

Speaking in am interview with www.bestchoicesports.com.ng at the venue of the election, Barr. Dushu who was the immediate past chairman of the NWF Technical Committee, commended the electorate for their peaceful conduct declaring that the election would usher in a new vigour in the development of weightlifting sport.

”I am highly impressed with the outcome of the election. Why we had the peaceful election was because of the conduct of the electorate. By and large, the technical officials which is a combination of the coaches, referees and and the athletes.

“This election is to produce who will represent the technical officials and athletes that will represent both groups in the federation. It is the dawn of new day in the federation.

“You can see that everything was done orderly, everybody exhibited sense of maturity and understanding about what we did here. The election results have been declared and everybody is satisfied including those that lost because it was very transparent,” he said.

He called on the new board members to be upright and remain humble even as they vote during the September 30 board election

“The September 30 election is a different ball entirely but those that have been elected will also have a say in the election but I advise them to remain humble in victory and put the interest of the sport at the forefront because they will vote as representatives of the technical officials and the athletes.

“They are part and parcel of the people that will determine who will become the president and vice president of the federation.”

The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF will conduct its zonal elections this Wednesday before the board election which comes up on Thursday next week.
