Former Super Eagles and Ajax of Netherlands winger, Finidi George has credited former coach of the national team Clemens Westerhof with rise his career, Bestchoicesports.com.ng reports.

Speaking recently in an Instagram interview, the former Ipswich Town and RCD Mallorca player said that with the impact of Westerhof in his career, the 1995 UEFA Champions League winners would not have signed him.

Explaining further, Finidi noted that he does not forget the past as far as his career is concerned adding that he would prefer Clemens Westerhof to Louis Van Gaal.

While Westerhof took Finidi to his first World Cup appearance in 1994 as well as Africa Cup of Nations triumph same year, Louis Van Gaal was in charge of Ajax Amsterdam which won the UEFA Champions League in 1995 with Finidi George playing a pivotal role en route that feat.

“I will go for Westerhof,” Finidi said while answering question on who between the two coaches he will choose in his career development.

“I had a beginning and I do not always forget the beginning. They (Ajax) will not sign me, (if Westerhof was not there), definitely. They will not even invite me. He (Westerhof) gave them those good works. So I will go with Westerhof,’ He concluded.

While Van Gaal was in charge of Ajax, Finidi won the Netherland’s Eredivisie three times in 1994, 1995 and 1996 seasons consecutively.

They also won the Champions League in 1994/95 season after beaten AC Milan in the final.
