The sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦250, 000.00) is up for grab as the final of the second edition of Life Camp Female Captains Volleyball Championship holds in the Federal Capital Territory on Sunday, June 5, 2023.
In the final match slated to commence by 2pm at the newly remodelled Life Camp Volleyball Court in Jabi, Abuja Team Hasso will battle Team Tanimu for the coveted trophy and a ₦100, 000 cash prize
Four teams, Team Justice, Team General, Team Hasso and Team Tanimu are taking part in the three-day championship which commenced on Friday, March 3rd.
Interestingly, both the finalists had clashed in the opening match with Team Tanimu winning the encounter 2-1 in a three-set game on Friday.
In the other matches, Team Justice defeated Team General 2-1 also on Friday in a 25-22, 12-25, 15-6 victory.
In matchday 3, Team Hasso triumphed 2-0 (25-22, 25-16) scoreline against Team General.
On Saturday, Team Tanimu beat Team General 2-0 (25-14, 25-16. They also had same scoreline against Team General in the last preliminary game.
In the last match on Saturday, Team Hasso set aside Team Justice 2-0 (25-20, 25-14) to confirm their final against Team Taminu
The four teams are named after Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Life Camp Volleyball Championship. Team Justice is named after the President of Industrial Court of Nigeria, ICN, Justice Bennedict Kanye.
Team Hasso is named after ACP Steven Hasso just as Team Tanimu is adopted from Arc Adamu Tanimu’s name.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Best Choice Sports in Abuja, the Sponsor of the tournament, Ikemi Asibong Eni said the objective of the competition is to promote female participation in volleyball and also prepare the players ahead of the 2023 volleyball activities in the camp.
The winner of the championship will pocket the sum of ₦100, 000. Runner up will receive ₦70, 000, 3rd placed team will get ₦50, 000 while the 4th placed team with get ₦30, 000 consolation.
Volleyball followers in the FCT who have been trooping in numbers to watch the spectacular volleyball display by the ladies described the final as “the battle of titans”.
Their argument is premised on the fact that the two teams are the most outstanding in the competition. While Team Tanimu remained unbeaten with three wins from three matches, Team Hasso’s only defeat in the competition out of three matches came against their Sunday opponents
