COVID-19: Sports Minister Backs FG On Not Reopening Contact Sports

The Minister of youth and sports development, Sunday Dare has backed the Federal Government on not lifting ban on contact sports, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
The federal government through the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, PTF on Thursday announced reversal of reopening of contact sports in the country.
Although the reversal was greeted with muted outcry, the minister of sports has backed the government’s decision
“Still on Contact Sports Resumption: we have provided more information and justification as needed. The FG, the PTF and indeed the MYSD are on the same page,” the minister said in tweet
He noted that it is better to err of the of caution and promised that the ministry is in discussion on the resumption of contact sports
“It’s better to err on the side of caution. Conversations are ongoing and soon we shall witness the return of contact sports.”
Nigeria’s national teams will be on international duties from November and various leagues in the country are expected to resume in October.
Sports was was suspended on March 18 following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Nigeria currently has 56,256 confirmed cases, 44,152 discharged and 1,082 deaths since the virus broke in February, 2020
