It was sports-cultural extravaganza in Opi, a town in Nsukka local Government, Enugu State on 26th January, 2022 as Beulah College held her first Inter-house Sports Competition amidst cultural display, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

Founded on 10th September, 2018, 4 years ago, Beulah College maiden Inter-house Sports Competition was the talk of town as it combined sports and cultural display to entertain guests and preserve the people’s mores.

It is not common among post-primary schools in Nigeria in recent times to engage in Inter-house Sports Competition which from time immemorial, remained the reservoirs for discovering, nurturing and grooming of athletes for national and global championships

At the end of the competition which climaxed on 26th January, JRB House emerged champions with 17 gold, 10 sliver and 5 bronze medals.

JRB House which hand outstanding athletes both in team and individual events, also had its members on individual honours award.

Cultural Display ply the students

While the football final was held on the 26 January to climax the activities, other sporting events such as javelin, shot put, volleyball finals were held from 17th to 21st January, 2022.

In the overall results made available to our correspondent, CEO House clinched the second position with 10 gold, 8 sliver and 4 bronze medals.

Ike Ugwu House placed third with 4 gold, 3 sliver and 6 bronze medals, while SPD House held on to the fourth place with two gold, four sliver and five bronze medals. They also won two trophies as the overall winner in the match past and football match.

Teumba Toka Wisdom of CEO HOUSE won the best footballer, highest goal scorer and best athlete award in the male category, while in the female category, Damen Angela of SPD House won the highest goal scorer and best athlete, just as Damen Silas of SPD House won the most valuable football player award.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Best Choice Sports in Enugu, the proprietor of the college, Engr. Sunday Mosadoluwa Akinwola said that beyond promoting sports at the grassroots and restoring the glory of sports development in secondary schools, the Inter-house Sports Competition is aimed at reinvigorating and recreating cultural practices among the people.

He gave assurance that the college will sustain the Inter-house Sports Competition going forward adding that neighboring schools were also invited to take part in the competition and some of them went home with various medals and trophies.

“It is the first Inter-house Sports Competition we are having within just four years of our establishment and we are happy we made it happen.

“The competition had students from JSS 1 to SS 2 who were divided into different houses and they participated in various track and field events, including 100 metres, 200 metes, 400 metres, 800 metres and relay races.

“They also participated in sack race, one-legged race, lime and spoon race, wheeling the tyre race, javelin, shot put, candle race, long jump, chubby race, picking the ball race, scrabble, high jump, discuss, filling the bottle, bursting the balloon, volleyball, ludo, drought, catching the school bus race, skipping race and football, among other activities.

“The invited schools were not left out of the competition, as they participated in relay races, with winners getting medals and prizes. Parents and staff also participated in the competition with prizes also given to the winners.

“The Inter-house Sports Competition will be sustained going forward by continuously inculcating sports activities in the school curricular,” he said.

Dignitaries who graced the final include Sir Ernest Ike Ugwu, NAPPS Enugu State Chairman; Dr. Williams Obeta, Chairman SPD Group; Sir Chukwuma Ephraim Okenwa, Director Queens Secondary School Enugu and Alhaji Jimoh Rauf Badamosi, CEO JRB Group.

Others are: Hon. Sunday Ezugw, Hon. Ignatius Abonyi, Hon. Chukwuka Ezugwu, Dr. Mrs. Idowu Otuomo, Dr. Mrs. Oloto, Pastor Levi Ezea and Mr. Walter Ugwuagbo.

The Beulah College Opi, founded by Engr. Sunday Mosadoluwa Akinwola currently have 158 students from JSS 1 to SS2.
