Enugu and Imo States on Saturday emerged champions of the 20th edition of the Chief of Naval Staff national U-17 male and female football tournament, respectively.

Hosted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, the Enugu State U-17 Male football team represented by the Adoration FC defeated their Abia State counterpart 5-0 in the final while Imo State U-17 female recorded a 4-0 thrashing against their Ebonyi State opponents.

In the 3rd place match, Anambra State were 2-0 victory against Ogun State while the state also, represented by Maureen Mmadụ Football Academy, won the 3rd place match for female.

Captain of Enugu team, Wisdom Boniface was awarded the Most Valuable Player, MVP of the tournament, he also won the Golden Boot after netting six times for his side.

For the female U-17, Islamiya Yusuf from Ondo State was voted the MVP while Harmony Chidi from Imo State won the Golden Boot with 7 goals.

A total of 28 teams comprising 17 male and 11 female took part in the one-week U-14 and U-17 tournament which started on Saturday, April 6 through Saturday, April 13, 2024.
