For the first time in as many years, two Nigeria’s prominent clubs, Enyimba International FC of Aba and Rangers International FC of Enugu will both miss out in continental league after both teams failed to pick a slot for the CAF Confederation Cup

Surprisingly, both teams playing home and away respectively, all lost their matchday 37 encounter against Dakkada FC and Gombe United in matchday 37 of the 2022 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL season.

While Enyimba lost 2-0 against visiting Dakkada, Rangers’ woeful form in the concluding part of the league continued with a 1-0 loss against Gombe United

The defeats ensured that for the first time in ages, both teams, who have been the most successful teams in Africa’s continental leagues will not feature in either CAF’s Champions League nor Confederation Cup next season

It will be the first time that Rangers will not be playing continental football for three consecutive seasons.

Enyimba currently occupy 6th position with 52 matches while Rangers are 5th with 53 points from equal number of games.

While Rivers United (Champions) and Plateau United, 2nd, have picked the CAF Champions League slots, the Confederation Cup first slot is now open for Remo Stars and Kwara United to slug it out for. The second slot will be occupied by the 2022 Aiteo/FA Cup winners.

Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes of Minna on Sunday confirmed their league status for next season following their hard-earned 2-1 win over fellow relegation battlers, Heartland FC of Owerri in Kaduna.

The victory took the Minna based side to 51 points, two points above the drop zone irrespective of the outcome of their last league game on Sunday next week.
