The Nigeria football federation is battling with one massive dilemma which is deciding a date for the 2022 NFF election

The NFF statutes states clearly that on election year, the NFF congress must pick a date that falls within the 365 days of that calander year but unfortunately for the football house, the 2022 World cup in Qatar starts in November and ends in December of the same year, meaning that for the first time in a long while, the congress is compelled to hold the election before the world cup.

What this also means is that for the first time in over two decades, the incumbent NFF president will not be leading Nigeria to the World Cup in 2022 that is if the Congress adopts what is in the statutes by refusing any temptation to postpone the election to 2023.

Already, a group of concerned stakeholders have started working underground to stop any such moves after information emerged that there are clandestine moves by this present board to compel the congress to do so.

The implication of this is that the incumbent NFF president will not enjoy the post World Cup 2022 FIFA largesse.

This money which in total is put at 2.5m dollars is paid by the world football governing body to all participating teams after the first round of matches at the global football fiesta.

In 2014, NFF president Aminu Maigari fought so hard but was impeached courtesy a palace coup orchestrated by 8 board members. That coup gave birth to the emergence of Amaju Pinnick as NFF president and incidentally he has remained in office since then, meaning he has enjoyed back to back 2.5m US dollars which is the total amount given to each National team after the first round of matches at the  FIFA World Cup.

The interesting news now is that a few individuals within and outside the board have risen up to challenge Amaju for the NFF throne, as they are looking forward to the 2022 FIFA World Cup largesse.

From the north are two key aspirants while from the South West and South East we have one each.

All four are determined to dethrone the incumbent and mount the stage as new president of Nigeria football.

The months ahead will be very interesting. May God keep us all alive
