Barring last minute change in plans, Enugu Rangers International FC coach, Salisu Yusuf will return to his position as the assistant coach to Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in two months’ time, can report.

Yusuf was Rohr’s No 2 when the Eagles qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and he also led the country to the final of the 2018 Africa Nations Championship, CHAN in Morocco.

The former Kano Pillars coach was banned after he received cash from undercover journalists posing as agents to feature some players in the final

He has since served out his ban and have been coach of Enugu Rangers after his contract with the NFF ran out.

SCORENigeria learnt that his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF have stood by him all along and insisted he is the best man to help Rohr get the Super Eagles through to the World Cup in Qatar.

The main stumbling block to his return has been a top official, who was behind the appointment of former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo as Rohr’s new assistant.

However, a source was quoted saying Mr Salisu has since given his nod to return in his former position.

Yobo was not part of the Eagles for the recent friendlies against Cameroon in Austria and as well as Sundays 4 four-nill bashing of the Eagles by Mexico as his name was not even mentioned as regards the team of NPFL stars who will flew the country’s flag in Los Angeles.

Scorenigeria quoted a source who said he did not enjoy a great working relationship with his boss Rohr, who also insisted Yobo do his coaching badges.

Coach Salifu was in 2018 banned for one year from football related activities by the Nigeria Football Federation after he was found guilty of taking $1000 bribe to select players for the 2018 CHAN final against Morocco.

Nigeria lost the match 4-0 on the 4th of February, 2018.
