Four-time Africa Footballer of the Year, Samuel Eto’o have officially assumed duties as the President of Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

Eto’o, 40, assumed responsibilities officially on Monday, January 17, 2022, a month after he was elected FECAFOOT President.

The former Cameroonian international on December 16, was elected president of the country’s football governing body with 43 votes, ahead of the incumbent president, who received 31 votes.

The former Barcelona and Inter player, defeated Seidou Mbombo Njoya, who was elected in 2018, but his election was contested by several actors of Cameroonian football, and canceled in mid-January by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The 40-year-old former striker had announced his intention to run for the post on September 22, saying it was time to “launch the reconstruction of Cameroonian soccer”.

Mr Eto’o confirmed the official resumption of duty in a post in made on his Facebook Timeline.

With a picture of himself and his predecessor, the former Chelsea striker thanked Seidou Mbombo Njoya for passing the baton and expressed optimism in the development of Cameroon football

“Yesterday officially marked my first day as the new president of @fecafootofficiel.

“Thank you to my predecessor Seidou Mbombo Njoya for passing the baton. I have high hopes of what can be achieved in this next chapter of Cameroonian football ,” he said

Samuel Eto’o’s emergence as FECAFOOT President came at a time their was huge doubt on whether Cameroon would be able to host the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON which is currently ongoing in six cities in the Central African country.
