It does appear that there is no crescendo yet in the growing fame and popularity of SC Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen as fans and admirers continued to associate and reckon with the Serie A top scorer

The Nigerian international and Napoli hero has inspired a new cake in Italy designed after his masked face and hair style

The Nigerian striker has been in unstoppable form all season. He’s netted an astonishing 19 goals in 20 Serie A appearances, including one at the weekend against Empoli.

Now 18 points clear of their second-placed rivals in the league, Gli Azzurri have all but clinched their first Scudetto in 33 years.

And while fans wait anxiously for the glorious day, one bakery in Naples sought to commemorate Osimhen’s role in that with a cake intended to resemble the 24-year-old.

The cake – complete with Osimhen’s iconic protective face mask and chopped hazelnuts representing his bleached hair – was made by the Fresco Forno bakery in the Scampia district of Naples.

Pastry chef Salvatore Mellone’s creation has reportedly flown off the shelves in Naples’ supermarkets, and he was even able to hand one directly to this season’s runaway Capocannoniere leader personally.

Osimhen appeared delighted as he posed with the dessert and said: “This is nice!” while the bizarre cakes went viral on social media.

One Twitter user wrote: “Who wouldn’t eat Osimhen’s cakes?” while another tweeted: “These Osimhen cakes are killing me.”

A third added: “Imagine getting a cake for your birthday and it’s just Osimhen’s head,” and a fourth commented: “Babe what’s wrong? You’ve barely touched your Osimhen cake.”

Yet not all were impressed by the gesture, with one person tweeting: “Italy is a wild place to live for black people,” and another adding: “Italy is a very scary place,” referencing the caricaturised representation.

It comes after young Napoli fans were accused of racism for wearing black face paint to resemble the player, sparking a debate surrounding how Italian football celebrates its black stars.
