As the 2021/2022 Nigeria Womens Football League, NWFL matchday 11 on Wednesday,
two title contenders, Edo Queens will ambush their Confluence Queens of Lokoja in one of the epic clashes in Benin, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
The match which will be played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin-City will be the 9th game of the season for the Benin-City based ladies who have promised to continue their scintillating performance of the unbeaten run.
Having played a total of 8 matches and losing none, the high flying Edo Queens no doubt stand tall among the 14 NWFL premiership clubs that are currently in the race for the 2021/2022 prestigious league title which if won at the end will automatically earn them a ticket to represent Nigeria in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
With the current form of the coach Mathew Wemimo- led girls, other teams are beginning to be scared of Edo Queens because of their recent rating which has made the team of the moment.
Edo Queens FC is the only Nigeria Women State-owned football club that travel by Air to play away league matches. Kudos to the State Government particularly our sports-loving Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Rt.Hon.Comrade Philip Shaibu, and other top management staff for their active involvement in the overall wellbeing of the team.
In the first leg played at the Confluence Stadium Lokoja, Kogi State in 2021, Edo Queens scored in the first half of the game, while the Lokoja girls levelled up towards the end of regulation time. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. In this week’s home crucial game, Edo Queens will not leave anything to chance as the girls are going all out for the three maximum points.
Again, the management team headed by the Permanent Secretary in the State Sports Commission, Mrs Sabina Chikere, has promised to do everything within its reach to ensure that the welfare of the team remains a top priority.
