Coaches, Journalists, Referees Express Shock Over NNL Chairman’s Death

Stakeholders in Nigeria football has expressed shock over the death of Nigeria National League, NNL Chairman, Chidi Ofo Okenwa.

Late Okenwa died Tuesday morning from undisclosed illness.

Mr Okenwa was the chairman Enugu State FA and a member of Nigeria Football Federation board

As the news of his death filtered in Tuesday, football coaches, referees, administrators as well as journalists has continued to express shock over Late Okenwa’s death.

Mr Edede Ndidi, CEO, Dreamland Football Academy and director, Dreamland/Embassy of Hungary Cup, said he was shocked over the news.

He described Ofo as a rare gem and wishes his soul to rest in peace

“I am sincerely in a shock. Football has lost a rare gem. What else can i say? May his soul rest in peace. Sleep in the Lord my dear friend Enugu Chief.”

Nasarawa United coach, Bala Nikyu, in his faction said that ‘life is a moving shadow’

“Hmmmm life, a moving shadow, rest in peace my Oga”

Andy Randa, Flying Eagles Media Officer, journalist and lecturer said “I can’t believe this. He was such a good man. Last time we saw was in a meeting where he played peacemaker between I and an administrator. He words calmed me down and my respect for grew many notches since that day. May his soul rest in peace. This is a shock.”

The Nigeria Referees Association, NRA has this to say about his death

“The shocking and sad news of the death of the Chairman of Enugu state Football Association, Chairman of the Nigeria National League NNL and Executive committee member of the NFF Chief Chidi Ofo Okenwa. According to the President of the association, Otunba Tade Azeez, Chief Okenwa, a friend of the referees was one of those who placed a premium for refereeing and never failed to identify with the NRA when necessary. Referees in Nigeria will miss the wise counsel of late Chief Okenwa while wishing the family, Enugu FA and members of NFF the fortitude to bear the loss.
May His Soul Rest in peace, Amen.”

Super Eagles Coordinator, Patrick Pascal, said
“Oh my God. May his gentle soul rest in peace 😭😭😭 so sad”

Alhaji Gafar, 36Lions FC Chairman said “This is a huge blow! Shock would be and understatement! He was a distinguished friend and a brother. May God almighty in His infinite mercy please grant his immediate family, FUBS and family of sports in general the fortitude to bear this big loss. What else can one say.
An erudite is gone!”

Assistant coach of Golden Eaglets, Bunmi Haruna said “Very sad, RIP. May God protect and provide for the needs of those left behind. Amen.”
